Teams aren’t even bothering to attack Rudy Gobert, Timberwolves at the rim

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 21:28:42 GMT

Golden State’s Dario Saric got the ball in the paint late in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Timberwolves with space to operate and only his man in front of him. The problem was, his man was Rudy Gobert. Rather than taking on that challenge, Saric dribbled out and got off the ball.Seconds later, Steph Curry fed Saric again off a pick and roll. Saric took a couple of hard dribbles in the paint, but the issue of Gobert again loomed. This time, Saric at least gave it a try, coming to a jump stop before attempting a no-jump, flip-up shot at the bucket, seemingly trying to catch Gobert off guard. The shot was no good.https://www.twincities.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/d74210f1-2ef2-ec32-cdcb-1574984d0cd0_1280x720.mp4This is the Rudy Gobert effect. ‘Banged up’ Kirill Kaprizov misses practice, but Wild hold off on calling up a forward

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 21:28:42 GMT

Kirill Kaprizov hasn’t been lighting the NHL on fire so far this season, and in fact was below ordinary during an embarrassing, 8-3 loss to the Dallas Stars on Sunday at Xcel Energy Center. But the Wild really don’t want to be without him, and it appears they might have dodged a bullet Monday.Kaprizov wasn’t on the ice for an hour-plus practice at TRIA Rink, and head coach Dean Evason said the Wild were leaning toward calling up an additional forward from Iowa before leaving late Monday for a weeklong trip to Sweden. Instead, the team recalled defenseman Daemon Hunt.Evason said Monday was a “maintenance day” for Kaprizov, adding, “Just banged up a little bit.” But the fact that Minnesota recalled a defenseman instead of a forward seems to indicate the left wing will be ready to play against Ottawa on Saturday, and against Toronto on Sunday, in Stockholm.Asked if Kaprizov’s injury has been a factor in the left wing’s performance, Evason said, “I don’t know.
