TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index gained almost 30 points on a broad-based rally led by base metal stocks as the price of oil reached US$90 per barrel, while U.S. stock markets also rose.A strong initial public offering (IPO) by a semiconductor company helped lift investors’ spirits Thursday and offset several economic reports that came in stronger than expected, said Michael Currie, senior investment adviser at TD Wealth. Shares in U.K. firm Arm Holdings opened at US$56.10 on the Nasdaq after being priced at $51. At the end of the trading day, its stock was up almost 25 per cent at $63.59. The S&P/TSX composite index closed up 288.90 points at 20,567.84.In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 331.58 points at 34,907.11. HINSDALE, Ill. -- Authorities in the Western Suburbs are actively searching for an armed robbery suspect in a Hinsdale neighborhood Thursday afternoon.According to the Addison Police Department, officers responded to reports of a robbery on the 1600 block of West Lake Street around 1 p.m. on Thursday. Shortly after, Hinsdale police located a vehicle believed to be involved located near Interstate 294 and Ogden Avenue. MONEE, Ill. — Will County Animal Control officials on Thursday asked Monee residents to be on the lookout for a missing wallaby.On the organization's Facebook page, officials warned of a missing wallaby named Rupert, who stands 2 feet tall and weighs 45 pounds. Bears won’t take one step toward a new stadium this fall Locals who see Rupert are asked not to try and chase or catch the furry animal. Instead, officials ask those who may come in contact to take a video or photo of its location. (The Hill) – School shootings reached a record high in the 2021-2022 school year, doubling the previous record that was set the year before, according to new federal data released Wednesday.In the 2021-2022 school year, 188 school shootings with casualties were reported, breaking the record from the year before, when 93 shootings with casualties were reported, according to the National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCES) annual crime and safety report.The report notes there has been “no consistent trend” in school shootings from the 2000-2001 school year to the 2020-2021 school year, with shootings with casualties ranging from 11 to 93 per year. “Because the number of school shootings in 2021–22 is an outlier compared to prior years, readers should interpret data with caution,” the report says.
