So much for the “December Doldrums” (meaning dry and quiet weather). Instead, south Florida is in a progressive pattern. For the time being, there’s some slight cooling behind a front. The boundary actually crossed early Monday morning. Temperatures are running below average for a change and, yes, it feels much cooler than we were over the weekend. Sometimes, following a front, our local skies clear out nicely. Not this time. There’s a large fetch of clouds streaming into the region and that’s not going to change anytime soon. Those clouds are arriving from the upper levels (high in the sky). Also, lower variety banks of clouds will likely fill-in by way of the ocean waters. Perhaps the best way to sum up the next few days will be gloomy and unsettled. Stronger winds are in the forecast, beginning Tuesday, as gusts will be up to 35 mph. More gusty days will follow, taking us all the way through the rest of the week! Finally, we’re wa...Police search for man accused of robbing pricey item from shopper at Fort Lauderdale Target

An item was swiped in seconds from someone’s shopping cart at a Target in Fort Lauderdale— and what was ripped away wasn’t cheap. A $1,500 one-wheel was robbed from a shopper outside of the store in Coral Ridge Mall along Oakland Park and U.S. 1.The victim said he believed that because of his white hair, the suspect would think he was an easy target. “When I got there, I’ve got me a shopping cart and I put the one-wheel on top,” said the 68-year-old victim Vincent Odeh. Surveillance footage caught the robber following behind Odeh with his cart just after 5 p.m. right before he struck. “I’m pushing it and I’m almost inside and all of a sudden this guy comes up from behind me and grabs it and I thought it was a friend playing you know, doing a joke on me or something,” said Odeh. “I looked at him and said ‘Oh I don’t know this guy.”The robber grabs the item and runs to his getaway car, a four-door white seda...Florida school grades are released. PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A tissue sample from the brain of a gunman who killed 18 people and injured 13 others in Maine has been sent to a lab in Massachusetts to be examined for signs of injury or trauma related to his service in the Army Reserves, officials said Monday. The state’s chief medical examiner wants to know if a brain injury stemming from 40-year-old Robert Card’s military service could have contributed to unusual behavior he exhibited leading up to the Oct. 25 shootings at a bowling alley and at a bar in Lewiston .A spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office characterized the extra step as a matter of thoroughness “due to the combined history of military experience and actions.”“In an event such as this, people are left with more questions than answers. It is our belief that if we can conduct testing (in-house or outsourced) that may shed light on some of those answers, we have a responsibility to do that,” Lindsey Chasteen, offic...Members of Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association replace 9-year-old boy’s stolen bike

Christmas came early this year for one nine-year-old boy in Boston when members of the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association delivered a new bike. John Lydon, who lives with autism, loves riding his bike. Recently, though, a man was caught on camera going into Lydon’s family’s backyard and taking the boy’s bike. Just in time for the holidays, Lydon was putting his helmet back on and riding in style on Monday as police officers replaced the stolen bike. An unexpected gift for Lydon, the sight of her son smiling as an even greater gift for Lydon’s mother, Meaghan, who is also a nurse at Mass General.“For the community to come together and the policemen, the Boston police, everybody, it’s just so amazingly thoughtful,” Meaghan said. The patrolman’s association said it was a no-brainer to replace Lydon’s bike.Latest news
