ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Cardinals are getting some key contributions from an important rotation piece at a time it's been hard to come by wins. Jack Flaherty fired six scoreless innings against a high-octane Texas Rangers offense on Wednesday, paving St. Louis to a 1-0 victory to close out a tough roadtrip. Flaherty didn't end up with the victory, but earned his third quality start in five games. Those last five games embody the best stretch of Flaherty's 2023 campaign. In that stretch, he's covered 30 innings, held opponents to just five runs and averaged around seven strikeouts per game. The Cardinals won in four of those five starts. RELATED - Revisting Mike Shildt’s comments on his Cardinals departure The 2023 season is a critical one for Flaherty in many ways. The 27-year-old could become a free agent next season, and big results could be essential in shaping his next contract, whether with St. Louis or elsewhere. As of now, it's also shaping to be his first largely-health...Keeler: If Nuggets have to step on Michael Porter Jr.’s ego to win NBA Finals, know what you do? Keep stepping.

MIAMI — Nikola Jokic has one foot in Bam Adebayo’s nightmares and the other on the Larry O’Brien Trophy. And you’re worried about Michael Porter Jr.’s feelings? Now?If the Nuggets gotta step on MPJ’s ego in order to reach the summit, so be it.The best move Denver coach Michael Malone made in Game 3 of the NBA Finals was shortening Porter’s window while extending the Nuggets’ rotation. When The Christian Braun Express rolls in from out of nowhere with that much smoke, you ride that puppy ‘til the coal runs out.“I loved our energy, our effort, our urgency, our discipline,” Malone said after the Nuggets nabbed a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. “I thought we were where we needed to be (Wednesday). We’ll have to be even better come Friday evening.”And if MPJ doesn’t want to keep getting thrown under the bus, he’s got to get his dang head out of the ditch. If Porter wants to be a factor in Game 4 Friday night at the Kaseya Center, that’s not on Malone. That’s on MPJ.Port...Changes underway as FlatIron Crossing, Flatiron Marketplace plan for renovations

The most destructive wildfire in Colorado history started in two places — on the grounds of an international religious cult and from a broken power line about 2,000 feet away, Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson said Thursday, announcing the results of a 17-month investigation into the origin of the Marshall fire.Embers from a fire that was thought to have been extinguished on the Twelve Tribes‘ property at 5325 Eldorado Springs Drive a week earlier reignited under high winds and began the Marshall fire on Dec. 30, 2021, Johnson said. About an hour later, hot particles from a defective Xcel Energy line ignited a second blaze, he said.“The two fires became one at some point,” Johnson said during a news conference in Boulder. He later added that investigators did not examine when or where the two blazes merged, only where they began.Leaders of the Twelve Tribes did not immediately return requests for comment Thursday.
